WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO PHOTOGRAPH MY BABY?

Studio newborn sessions are generally held when your baby is between 1 - 3 weeks old. This is to capture them at their littlest and sleepiest.

MY BABY IS ALREADY OVER 3 WEEKS OLD! HAVE I LEFT IT TOO LATE?

Of course not! Babies are adorable at any age and I am happy to accommodate older babies up to 8 weeks old for a newborn session. The older they are, the bigger they’ll be and the more likely they’ll be awake, although this often leads to getting more sweet smiles and eye contact too.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK A SESSION?

As soon as you are sure you’d like a newborn session, which ideally is while you’re still pregnant. I do take last minute sessions though, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?

I am known for my gently-posed, natural and neutral-toned newborn photography. This means the focus is on your baby and their little features as opposed to distracting props and bright colours.

HOW LONG DO NEWBORN SESSIONS TAKE?

This depends on which session type you are booking in for. Petite sessions tend to take one hour, and Signature sessions from two - three hours. This allows time for feeds and settling as required. You’ll never be made to feel rushed during your session.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING ON THE DAY?

For your baby, you only need to bring your usual nappy bag with extra nappies, a dummy if you have one, and extra milk for top ups (or be prepared to breast feed as needed). If there are any sentimental items you would like included, feel free to bring them along too (i.e. blanket knitted by a grandmother). If you have toddlers, please bring snacks that won’t stain their clothes, and a favourite toy or activity. I have a toy box here as well.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

To keep with the neutral-toned theme of your session, it is best to wear light coloured clothing that are neutral or pastel toned. Colours such as creme, grey, white or other soft tones work well. Light floral prints also photograph beautifully. As long as you all coordinate somewhat but aren’t completely matchy matchy, then it will be fine. Family portraits are generally taken from the waist up, so what you wear on the bottom doesn’t matter as much. Feel free to bring a few outfit options and I can help you decide on the day. If you’re really stuck, you are welcome to borrow a dress from my studio collection.

I’VE BOOKED A FIRST GLIMPSE SESSION. HOW DO I PREPARE FOR IT?

You’ll receive a confirmation with tentative session date via email. There will be prep information included. In brief, just give your baby a big feed 1/2 hour before the session time, and have them in their outfit and a wrap ready to go. If the morning doesn’t go to plan however, please don’t worry. I’ll work around you and your baby.

CAN WE BRING THE GRANDPARENTS ALONG FOR A PHOTO OR TWO?

Yes of course! Please invite them to be part of your session. They may prefer not to stay for the duration of the session, so it might be worth arriving in separate cars in case they want to head off.

WHAT WILL YOU DO IF MY TODDLER ISN’T BEING COOPERATIVE?

Toddlers are awesome aren’t they? I’ve had two of my own so please don’t stress if they aren’t cooperating on the day. I’ve got some little tricks up my sleeve that works around 98% of the time, and we nearly always manage to get something!

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SESSION?

With your permission, I post a sneak peek on my In Bloom Photography facebook page. If you can tag yourselves and write a comment, then that will help your family and friends see your gorgeous baby. Your gallery will then be sent via email within one - two weeks of the session for you to make your final selection.

WHAT ABOUT COVID-19 AND RESTRICTIONS?

I have completed my Covid-19 safety training and am a registered Covid-Safe business. I request that you check in at the start of your session and apply hand sanitiser that is available for you. My studio cleaning processes were always thorough, and continue to be, With newborn sessions, where I am close to your baby, I’ll ask you if you prefer that I wear a mask or not. The main thing to remember at this time is that if you or anyone in your family is feeling unwell leading up to, or on the day of the session, please just get in touch to reschedule. I’ll do the same from my end. Maintaining everyone’s health is my number one priority.
